Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

Target hardening is a viable solution to crime prevention. The appearance of added security in any form or fashion can act as a deterrent to potential criminal activity. A potential criminal may perceive a higher level of security as a higher risk situation and thus the costs may seem to outweigh the benefits from the theft and/or attack. Crimes of opportunity may also be deterred with target hardening. The accessibility to criminal activity with target hardening is diminished. In essence it may deter from crime before the act and thus is a prevention method. Note that it will also add to a higher failure rate of theft and/or attack in the event of an incident where target hardening has been employed.
