Question Description

1.      You have 280 small square bales of hay to haul.  Your truck and trailer weigh 2150 lbs. empty.  You load 56 bales and your weight is 6182 lbs.  (6 pts)


A.    What percent of the bales did you get in the first load?





B.     How many loads will it take to haul all of the bales?





C.     What is the average weight of the bales?

Part c. 6182 lbs - 2150 lbs = 4032 lbs

This is the weight after the bales are loaded minus the weight before the bales are loaded.

The weight of the 56 bales is 4032. Let x be the weight of the each bale.

56x=4032 divide by 56 on both sides

x=72 lbs the weight of a bale of hay

Part b. You can carry 56 bales per load  you have 280 bales total.

280 bales / 56 (bales per load) = 5 loads

Part a. 56 bales out of 280 bales is your percentage. To find percentage do the amount divided by the total.

56/280=.2 or 20%
