Discussion question Next week you are required to submit a Supply Chain based on your proposed business idea. In preparation for that assignment, consider what might be the components of the supply chain at your current place of employment. Briefly describe the primary purpose of the business and then briefly discuss some of the components of its supply chain. You do not need to submit a flowchart or picture of the supply chain. If you are not currently employed, use a company that you are familiar with. After you have posted your initial response, take the time to interact with two of your classmates about what they have posted. If you are not currently employed, use a company that you are familiar with. About ten (10) years ago, I worked for Enterprise Rent-A-Car, currently known as Enterprise Holdings after the company’s acquisition of Vanguard Automotive Group, the parent company of National and Alamo Rent a Car. As argued by Lifschutz (2019), the rising domestic air travel supports industry growth for car rentals. Hence, having a smooth and flawless supply chain process until it yields profits is a very crucial part of the company’s business model. Enterprise Holdings works with the automobile manufacturing industries such as Ford, Toyota, Chrysler etc. to purchase newly built cars and sometimes, slightly used cars and then rent these cars out to their customers. The company’s highly utilizes the airport locations as their main financial hubs but they also have in-town car rentals, car sales, CarShares, and truck rentals. Enterprise Holdings is now investing and using advance technology to track their fleet of cars which is more than 1.5 billion vehicles across the nation. The company has also announced the use of self-service rental options to ease congestion and easy access to renting a car. The company has discounted rental rate and options for many U.S. government agencies including the U.S. Military. It partners with well-known hotels and resort locations as their main car rental partners. With Enterprise, there must be supply (cars) even if it requires shifting cars from different locations to meet their customer demands. Therefore, having all its stakeholders as well as supply chain in a coordinated effort to provide a seamless and time effective services to the company’s cherished customers is their number one priority and goal. As famously quoted by the company’s founder Jack Taylor, “take care of your customers and employees first, and profits will follow” Reference Lifschutz, M (2019) Car Rental in the US, IBISWorld Industry Report 53211 Student 2 Teresa ( needs a response directly at him not in a 3rd person, what u like about his post or agree with or disagree with, stay positive) My current place of employment deals with services, so the supply chain is interesting. The company I work for manages sort centers and warehouses. We employ the people to manage and maintain the building and the equipment inside. Our supply chain involves the parts necessary to maintain the building and equipment, but the most important part to our operations are the people we employ at the sites. That is the main focus of our business. We provide a supply of people to keep the site operational with a focus on safety. While service providers have supply chains they aren’t necessarily as exciting as manufacturers. In college, I interned at a global chemical company in their supply chain department. That was an “exciting” supply chain because of the complexity of all the moving parts. I was charged with managing the supply chain of a portfolio of products for NAFTA. I placed the orders for the base chemicals needed to create our products from around the world to be shipped to different plants within the US and Mexico. The lead times for the chemicals varied and orders needed to be place with right amount of time to have the chemicals on hand for production. Basic flow of their supply went as follows: a customer orders a product with the expectation of delivery something in the future, orders for the chemicals needed would be placed, delivery of the chemicals, production of the product and then delivery to the customer. The normal lead time would be around 60 days depending on the product. The hardest part of my job was coordinating with suppliers around the world and ensuring that delivery times would be met. Time zones and language barriers were the hardest part of communicating with suppliers in Europe and Asia. I left that internship with a healthy understanding and appreciation for global supply chains that have helped me in my career as an accountant.

I once worked in Amazon.Inc, of which it was full of fun since it gave me more
experience on how to handle customers and the warehousing techniques. I learned that a more
significant part of the Amazon success is based on how it handles the warehousing. Amazons
products are easily accessible from a direction in the world. The company has different
warehouses strategically located in, and its inventories are spread amongst the stores to ensure
that the firm meets the customer demands. The company’s supply chain differs from other
retailers since it does numerous deliveries daily. It includes offers free two-day prime deliveries
and other excellent options which are delivered from one location to another for only within two
hours or less. The company has purchased drones; Amazon-branded trucks and delivery vans
that help facilitate the delivery process. Amazon has also contracte...
