The Great Wall of China was built in 7th century; the purpose of the wall was to protect china states against attacks from their neighbors. The wall was constructed as a result of several walls joined together to make one strong wall. Other reasons why the wall was constructed to control and safeguard the boundaries. Other reasons why the wall was constructed was to control trade, immigration and emigration. The defensive characteristics of the wall was facilitated by the construction of watch towers, troops barracks , garrison stations, signaling through use of smoke in events of attacks while it also served as transportation corridor. The modern wall cannot be as strong as that wall simply because the Great Wall of China was stronger and highly structured by use of bricks and stone instead of rammed earth. Due to its uniqueness the wall has been a source of torrist’s attraction.
However many people were killed when it was under construction, many of the peasents who were forced to build it while under starvation, desease and over work. But it did protect many of the northern towns and villages from the invading mongul.
