Question Description

Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of both symmetrical and master-slave multiprocessing systems in regards to computer processing speed, multiprocessing configuration, overheating, and cost. Of the two (2), recommend the type of processor that would be better suited for a computer that is primarily used for the following: Word processing, Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, and computer gaming. Provide a rationale for your response.

Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

 symmetrical

Advantages

In  terms of  computer processing it  has high  speed  and is reliable

Fault tolerant support is  well  catered  for  since  if  one  fails  others  dont

Balanced workload  thus  no  issue  of  one  being  overloaded  by others  hence  fast

 Disadvantages

Resource conflicts – memory, i/o,  whereby  one  processor  may conflict  with  other  in the mode  of  acccess

in terms  of  configuration it  has Complex implementation

The cost  is  very  high  even  though efficient

master slave

Advantages

Simplicity  in terms  of  configuration since  just  needs one processor  to  configure

Protection of system and data since  they  are  just  within one  processor

Disadvantages

Master CPU becomes a bottleneck  since  it  may  overheat  due  to  heavy  workload

Reliability issues – if master CPU fails entire system fails thus its  no  longer  reliable

For  2  we  recommend  a master slave  since the workload of  the computer  is not heavy  and  its  much  cheaper  and  simple

Please let me know if you need any clarification. I'm always happy to answer your questions.
