The Monroe Doctrine explains that leadership is taught and acquired from the skills that we learn
from others. Leadership does not only depend on the traits of an individual. A leader has to make
visions which inspire the followers. Leaders ensure that the employees understand that they get
valued in the workplace. Leadership, therefore, starts from the heart and through experiences
learned; an individual becomes a better leader. It is logic to say leadership gets taught and
leaders are made not born. Many leaders are not born to lead, but they are prepared to lead
through learning.
Leadership requires specific sets of skills which must be acquired through learning. The types of
leadership skills which get taught include communication skills in which every leader should
enhance professional communication skills. The motivation skill is another skilled which a
leader should learn to ensure the productivity and quality performance by the followers.
Problem-solving skills help a leader in finding solutions to every challenge. Decision –making
skills should also be learned by a leader for effective decision-making processes in times of risks.
The leader that I admire most is the former President Barrack Obama. President Obama’s
leadership skills showed that leaders are not born, but they learn experiences to help them lead.
He came from a background with no leaders, but through the acquired skills and experiences, he
managed to aim higher and inspired many leaders. He learned the skills of taking risks which
many of the leaders fear to undertake. President Obama had a professional communication skill
which captured the attention of his audiences. He talked with a lot of logic to ensure the
Americans understood his power of speech. The ability of perseverance was also seen in his

leadership, no matter how much President Obama endured criticism, President Obama remained
an influential leader. He inspired empowerment which is an excellent skill in direction.
