Social policies
The relationship between Nixon and Soviet Union was enhanced through détente. This was to
aimed at improving political relations with other countries like the People’s Republic of China so
as to end war.
He was also the first president to visit Soviet Union in 1972 which promoted trade and cultural
exchange with other countries.
In place of federal bureaucracy, Nixon promoted minority employment by voluntary local efforts.
This was against the Philadelphia plan of affirmative action.
