Presentation Reflection

The Vietnam War that was also considered as the Resistance War against America or the
Second Indochina War involved two major countries which include South Vietnam and North
Vietnam. Due to the other nations that allied the two countries, several nations joined the war in
support of their ally. In this case, China and the Soviet Union decided to support North Vietnam
while Thailand, Australia, Philippines, South Korea, and the United States among other anticommunist allies supported South Vietnam. The war took place for 19 years whereby the United
States involved its troop directly until 1973. The presentation reflection entails the United States
end of the Vietnam War and the resonation of the American Dream.
End of Vietnam War
In a conference that was held towards the end of the war, Richard Nixon the President
who took over declared that the war is coming to an end since the nations involved had met their
plan. This announcement from the president was made in June in 1969 claiming that the United
States should follow the newly developed program known as Vietnamization (Turse, 2013). The
plan indicated that the forces in South Vietnam would be made stronger for them to take more
war responsibilities. After the troops in South Vietnam were added their duties, the United States
was forced to withdraw its soldiers from the war. Richard Nixon ordered the withdrawal of the
United States soldiers which comprised of 60,000 troops while the rest remained in the war. The
president promised to provide the forces in South Vietnam with more advanced modern weapons
and equipment. On 27th January 1973, Viet Cong, North Vietnam, South Vietnam, and the
United States agreed to sign a Paris Peace Accord that contributed in ending the war and
restoring peace among the involved nations (Lind, 2013). After signing the agreement, the US
troops that remained in the war were all withdrawn within two months. Direct involvement of the
United States in the war ended, and some advisers from the nation remained in Vietnam until
1975 during the fall of Saigon that marked the official end of the war.
Resonation of the American Dream
The American dream was an idea that was developed in the United States requiring the
government to protect the opportunity of every person in the nation for their success. The idea
was said to have been developed in 1931 by James Adams. Based on the issue of the American
dream, the Declaration of independence played a critical role since it indicated that all American
residents would be provided with all unalienable rights. Some of the aspects that were being
referred to include the ones concerned with happiness pursuit, liberty, and life. However,
vigorous debates have been developed regarding the issue of the American dream where some
scholars such as Burke Hedges asserted that the American dream was lost a long time ago. Due
to the aspect, the scholar wrote a book regarding ‘Who Stole the American Dream’ (Smith,
2012). However, according to the debates regarding the end of the dream, it is possible for the
vision to be redeveloped through to various factors of the United States. The factors include its
geographical location, benign neighbors, and availability of natural resources.
