Week 3 Discussion 1
Assessing Leadership Qualities
High 5 Test
Skill assessments are a great way to build character and boost staff morale among your supervisory team. As an administrator, it is important to understand that everyone on your team brings unique skills or talents that help contribute to the overall development of your department. I recently went through a leadership training and we were asked to complete the High 5 Test. This is a skills assessments that identify the personal skills and characteristics about you as a person listed below are my 5 characteristics.
1.Empathizer - Your objective is to be empathetic to others' emotions. No one can step into the others' shoes better than you
2. Self-Believer- Your objective is to bring confidence. While you might not know what the future is going to bring, it does not disturb you.
3. Philomath-Your objective is to learn new things. Due to your love of learning people tend to say you are a very curious person.
4. Peace Maker- Your objective is to solve conflicts and to establish harmony. You believe that, because conflicts divide us, one needs to find areas of common agreement to go further.
5. Deliverer-Your objective is to take responsibility. If there is a person who is emotionally bound to follow through on all promises - then it's you.
As a leader, it is important to identify the strengths and characteristics of each remember of your team. The most important skill in my job position is a Deliverer. It is my responsibility to meet all goals and expectations set forth by my superiors. My job requires me to never fold under pressure because I simply cannot afford to. As a leader, you have to often lead by example. In a crisis situation, whether I am dealing with kids or a staff altercation, the ability to be peacemakers becomes a critical factor.

Choose your favorite skill assessment (i.e. StrengthsFinder, Myers-Briggs, DiSC) and describe the assessment tool.
Myers-Briggs is the personality test that I chose to take. When I do these tests, that is the one I have always done, so I comfortable with the results.
Then identify your results to your classmates. If you are unable to take a leadership skills assessment, state which leadership skills you feel are your strongest.
ESFP - The Performer
VERY GOOD MATCH
ESFPs are vivacious entertainers who charm and engage those around them. They are spontaneous, energetic, and fun-loving, and take pleasure in the things around them: food, clothes, nature, animals, and especially people.
ISFP - The Composer
VERY GOOD MATCH
ISFPs are gentle caretakers who live in the present moment and enjoy their surroundings with cheerful, low-key enthusiasm. They are flexible and spontaneous, and like to go with the flow to enjoy what life has to offer.
ESTP - The Dynamo
GOOD MATCH
ESTPs are energetic thrillseekers who are at their best when putting out fires, whether literal or metaphorical. They bring a sense of dynamic energy to their interactions with others and the world around them.
Introvert/Extrovert- Your energy style is a blend of Introversion and Extraversion, and as such, you are neither a true Introvert nor a true Extravert. For the purposes of personality typing, you may call yourself an Extravert, as you do tend slightly to prefer this mode. However, it’s more accurate to say that you are a bit of both Extravert and Introvert: you tend to use both styles somewhat equally, or you may prefer one style over the other depending on the situation.
Sensing-As a Sensor, you tend to focus on factual, practical things. You are drawn to things you can see and touch and do not spend much time thinking about abstract ideas. You are realistic and down-to-earth and often enjoy hands-on activities. You like to think and talk about real events and concrete facts and have little interest in theory or fantasy.
Thinking/Feeling-Your values style is a blend of Thinking and Feeling, and as such, you are neither an absolute Thinker nor an absolute Feeler. Because you do show a slight preference for Feeling, we can classify you as a Feeler type. However, it’s more accurate to say that you are a bit of both Thinker and Feeler: you tend to use both styles in processing information, and you may switch from one to the other depending on the demands of your environment.
Perceiver- As a Perceiver, you like to keep things casual and open-ended. You dislike being tied down, preferring instead to be free to go with the flow and the impulses of the moment. You tend to avoid rigid structures and organizational systems, and shy away from scheduling your time in advance. You like to be free to make last-minute changes as new ideas arise.
In your post, provide your initial response and opinions related to your leadership skills. Prioritize which skills are most critical to strategic planning and which skills are most critical to crisis response.
Strategic Planning- It is essential to be a strategic planner when working with young children because schedules cannot always be followed. When something happens in the classroom, it requires a change instantly but without worrying the children. In critical response, we must ensure that children are not fighting and if they are diffuse the situation right away. Also, that teachers are working together and if not figure out a plan to ensure there is no animosity.

MLA Smedley Butlers Pamphlet War Is a Racket Discussion Essay
This week we will look at Smedley Butler's pamphlet War is a Racket. Butler was one of the most highly decorated individuals in Marine Corps history. His publication of War is a Racket seems to be a refutation of more than thirty years of service to his country. We will discuss whether or not Butler's critique is correct and why or why not. There is no "right or wrong" answer here, both sides can be defended, so I hope some of you will choose to critique Butler and his argument. On the face of it Butler's critique would appear to be correct, but one can argue that he was also incorrect. There is evidence to support either interpretation. Despite Butler's military service we can still critique his interpretation of U.S. actions. Butler is a good example of the inherent contradiction of motive in U.S. foreign policy. I do hope that some students will choose to oppose Butler's interpretation. Answer : Following your reading of the previous four weeks is Butler correct in his critiques? Why or why not? Bring in evidence from the previous four weeks readings to support your answer.
