Part 1: Happiness and well being
Happiness is the overall appreciation of the life of an individual as a whole. Satisfaction varies
across the cultures. It is like an opinion, or "beauty” since this idea of being happy changes
depending on the time and culture. Happiness leads to the wellbeing of an individual. Cognition
helps us to elucidate why at times we feel good, and other times we feel bad. The are several
influences on happiness and well-being but vary across the nation and cultures, (Suh, E. M,
2009). These are Freedom, social rank and personality.
Personality: The available data on the research based on the relationship between happiness a
nature suggest that those extroverted people are likely to be happier across the variety of
nations. (Lucas et al., 2000). The neurotics are likely to be less happy to be across diverse
cultures. The impact of these influences on happiness often vary across the cultures. A good
example is a self-esteem which is stronger in the individualistic cultures than in the collectivist
cultures, (Oishi et al., 1999).
Freedom is the ability to express their desires and feelings to the extent of the satisfaction.
Happiness is pronounced in the cultures where there is freedom of association. Such individuals
have more control over their life. There is a strong correlation between personal happiness and
perceived independence.
