Description
what do you do when you are trying to find slopes and intercepts to solve equations? if I ask what is the slope and y- intercept of y=5/3 x +4 what would the answer be?
Explanation & Answer
Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!
There are facts which have been proven about slopes and intercepts.
The equation of a line takes the form y= mx +c whereby m is the slope of the line and c is the y intercept
Therefore in an equation like
y=5/3 x +4
5/3 is the slope ( It is the coefficient of x when y is 1) and 4 is the y intercept.
This is important to note that the value of y should be 1
example:
What is the slope of the line 2y =8x +12
The slope will not be 8 because the equation is not in the simplest form.
Simplifying the equation give y=4x +6 that is after dividing through by the coefficient of y.
The slope will be 4
