Act of 1964 Explain How It Has Changed the Staffing Process
The staffing process relates to the recruitment, selection, development, orientation and placement of the managerial personnel. The act of 1964 changed the staffing process in many ways. The act of 1964 applies to employers with more than 15 employees, including the local and state governments.
1. Equal Employment Opportunities
According to this act equal employment opportunities cannot be denied to an individual because of his/her racial group or perceived racial group. The act of 1964 protects individuals against employment discrimination on the basis of color and race, as well as national origin, religion and gender. The act also prohibits employment decisions based on assumptions and stereotypes about traits, abilities and performance of people of certain racial groups.
2. Hostile Work Environment/Harassment
The act of 1964 prohibits offensive conducts such as ethnic and racial slurs and derogatory comments, or other verbal or physical conduct that is based on an individual’s color or race. Employers are therefore required to take appropriate steps so that they can prevent unlawful harassment of their employees.
3. Segregation and Classification of Employees
The act of 1964 prohibits the segregation and classification of employees who belong to a specific group isolating them from other employees of from customer contact.
