As technology is increasingly developing and access to different media is also enhanced,
one constant worry of parents is the violence that their children may be exposed to through film.
This concern has risen especially with incidences of public violence also on the rise and youths
coming across as most of the perpetrators. This question raises genuine concern on the effects of
violence in films to children and how this translates to the real world. The study is not limited to
films only but it also extends to violence in video games and other media including television.
Generally, this violence is expected to produce adverse effects on children hence the censorship
efforts but even with censorship, children are still exposed to violence mainly through film and
video games. This paper highlights the reasons why violence remains a dangerous aspect of films
and strict control should be implemented to reduce exposure of children and teenagers. Violence
in films should be limited because it causes aggressive behavior in children, emotional
desensitization, and may even lead to violence in cases of mentally-ill children.
