how does Judith Jarvis Thomson undermine it? Include her though experiments.
Philosophical efforts to resolve the abortion controversy seem to start with the most
qualified arguments against and for abortion. Most philosophers posit that the conservative
argument against abortion is founded upon the assertion that since the time of conception, a fetus
is a person. The extreme conservative argument against abortion can be broken down into six
smaller arguments (Gibson, 1984): all persons have an equal right to life; all fetuses are persons;
hence, all fetuses have a right to life; it has never been morally acceptable to overrule an
innocent person’s right to life; abortion is a deliberate overriding of an individual’s (the fetus’s)
right to life; abortion has never been morally tolerable. Taking into account that this analysis is
widely held, it becomes a surprise that it disagrees with a variety of arguments given to support
