Medieval Poetry and Modern Music Lyrics
Medieval poetry was diverse and consisted of poetry composed during the 3rd and 12th
century with specific themes that were relevant in the era. Several scholars argue that these
poems were presented to audiences through verbal readings by minstrels and troubadours.
Medieval poetry was primarily divided by its lyrics audience and classes. Modern music lyrics,
on the other hand, involves lyrics that was developed in the 20th century until to date. Modern
music lyrics includes all significant elements including chord progression, rhythm, melody and
so on. This conclusion is supported by Lochhead & Auner (2013), through the argument that
even the very insignificant notion that made up music before the 20th century was redefined in
the modern music lyrics. This paper explores the essential role that medieval poetry and lyrics
play in contemporary music through a close comparison of their aspects and the analysis of their
rhetoric contexts.
Medieval poetry was predominantly religious in nature mainly composed and written by
