Total: /100 What you did well: What you need to work on: Outline of an Argument Paper – Classical Pattern I. Introduction A. Attention Getter/Hook: An interesting fact, statistic or quote to get your reader’s attention. B. Background Information: basic information about the issue and any relevant background to the issue—current discussion, appropriate history, relevant legislation (This information may also come in a separate paragraph after the introduction.) C. Thesis Statement: states the position to be argued in the essay—will probably include a “what” and “why” part. II. Reasons that Support the Thesis Statement A. Reason 1/Argument 1/Pro 1 (main point #1) 1. Supporting paragraph 1 2. Supporting paragraph 2 B. Reason 2/Argument 2/Pro 2 (main point #2) 1. Supporting paragraph 1 2. Supporting paragraph 2 C. Reason 3/Argument 3/Pro 3 (main point #3) 1. Supporting paragraph 1 2. Supporting paragraph 2, etc. Notes about reasons/arguments section: 1. Since this is a longer paper, you will almost certainly have more than one paragraph per main point. This means that your discussion will be more detailed. 2. Think carefully about how you order your reasons/arguments. Possible ways to order your arguments include most familiar to least familiar or least important (weakest) to most important (strongest). 3. Think also about how all the different arguments fit together and be sure to reflect this in your paragraph transitions. III. Counterarguments and Responses to Them A. Con 1- Mention the arguments from the other side of the issue (i.e. if you’re arguing that guns should not be allowed on college campuses, mention the arguments from the people who think that guns should be allowed on college campuses.) B. Refutation--Briefly refute the other side’s arguments. You may refute the argument in three ways—see pp. 162 & 163 of your textbook for examples: 1) Disagree—claim that the counterargument is wrong, because: • • • • It misinterprets or ignores that facts Its claims are exaggerated Its reasoning is not sound Its solution to a problem will not work 2) Concede a point, but disagree nonetheless Acknowledge that part of the counterargument is valid, but disagree with the remainder of the argument. 3) Agree and disagree, but take a position. Acknowledge validity of both sides of the issue, but then claim that one side is the better choice—or the least harmful choice. Note: This section could be placed in the paragraph following the introduction. You may also choose to have more than one counterargument. IV. Conclusion

Can Safe Injection Sites Help Reduce The Heroin Epidemic?
Introduction
Drug abuse is one of the many mostly mentioned topics today. We are even surrounded
by people who are affected by drug abuse and they probably are even addicted to them. This
topic about drug abuse may look normal and not a big issue as such, but in reality, this is one of
the main reasons why people struggle and even fail in almost of the areas of their lives. There are
many different types of drugs consumed today. And they are even introduced into the body in
different ways. These examples include alcohol, Marijuana, synthetic Cathinones Nicotine,
inhalants and heroin among many others. They all have different negative effects on the body of
the consumer.
One of the most abused drugs in the US is heroin and it affects the whole of the United
States from Coast to Coast. It is a drug part of Narcotics which are meant for pain relieving.
According to a research that was done by the National Survey on Drug use and Health
(NSDUH), about 948 000 citizens were to be using heroine within the past year. The trend had
actually been rising from the year 2007 till then and it is mostly done by those youths who are
between 18 to 25 years. This rising trend with regards to Heroin use has been reported before by

the NIDA Community Epidemiology Work group. Heroin provides a moment of good feelings
and the users become “high” at the use of it. It is very addictive and the moment one starts using
them, it is hard for them to stop using them even when they are willing to stop.
Injection is one of the mainly used ways to introduce heroine into the body. Most victims
undergo Heroin Overdose by using enough of the drugs to an extent they cause a life threatening
reaction or even resulting to death. Due to injections and the craving for more doses, victims
share the needles they use and this causes a high risk of being infected with various blood
connected diseases. There should be a safe space therefore for people to use heroine therefore in
a way that is at least supervised to reduce the risks that are connected to own injections on one
self and sharing the various instruments in doing this. This therefore brings in the question, ‘Can
safe injection sites help reduce the heroin epidemic? There are various views from various
groups of people about these.
Safe injection sites should be opened because of many reasons:
Reduces drug related harm.
There is a difference between an injection done just out of one’s craving and one done
out of a good prescription from authorized persons. All drug need to be consumed in the correct
amounts lest they can cause great harm to one’s health. In the US, there are no strong set up
supervised drug consumption Services. Allan G. et al.(2001) of The harm reduction Coalition,
the group that deals with people affected with drugs stated that findings show that with the right
health care for all groups of people,...
