As you can see from the picture, we have a right triangle where the side opposite the 52 degree angle is 100 feet and it represents the distance from the end of the parking lot to the loading dock.  We want to find the height of security light, which we will label as h.

Using the tangent function we have the equation:

tan 52 = 100/h  and solve for h (the height of the security light).

1.27994 = 100/h ,   with tan 52 = 1.27994

h = 100 / 1.27994  (in feet)

h = 78.12856 feet

approximate height to 78.13 feet.

Choose answer choice D. 78.13 feet.
