From Mahatma Gandhi and Wiston Churchill to Martin Luther king and Steve Jobs there can be many ways to lead people as there are leaders.Various theories have came forward to describe the various leadership style.
According to Lewin's leadership style there are autocratic leader, democratic leader and laissez -faire leader.According to Blake-Mouton Managerial Grid which was published in 1964 it highlighted the people oriented style and task oriented leadership.
According to me the leadership style depends on the situation requirement. For example:Democratic leadership is the most effective in the making a balanced approach in decision making. The main benefit to this style of leadership is that team members tend to have high job satisfaction because their opinions are valued, and they tend to work hard and stay put. But at the time of crisis it is or utmost important to make quick decision rather than mutual consensus decisions.
In short, different leadership style can be effective given the particular challenges being faced and particular needs of the people involved.Instead of selecting one leadership style, effective leaders are able to
move among styles, selecting the one that is required in the moment.
