We have to use the Pythagoras theorem to find the length of the diagonal.

Pythagoras theorem states that the square of the hypotenuse (the side opposite the right angle) is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides.

Let the length of diagonal be d.

So applying Pythagoras theorem, we get

$\\ d^2=28^2+16^2\\ \\ d^2=784+256\\ \\ d^2=1040\\ \\ d=\sqrt{1040}\\ \\ d=32.2\: \: in$

So diagonal length of the suitcase is 32.2 inches.
