The etiology of school dropout rates among children from low-income households
The selected program for this assignment is the Head Start. Head Start is a program
that is coordinated and funded by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that
assists children from low-income families in accessing early childhood education and
addressing other gaps that contribute to the differences in health readiness and attainment
between this group and their counterparts from high-income families (Hines, 2017). Besides
boosting educational readiness, the program has proven effective in reducing school dropout
rates among children from the target population.
Societal factors that contribute to the high drop-out rates among children from lowincome families can be best understood by exploring them from the perspective of the
systems theory. This theory considers a person as a part of a larger system that is made up of
