For this weeks discussion, I would like to focus on the topic of affirmative action. I encourage you to be levelheaded in expressing your opinions so that the debate can stay rigorous and detached. Think of jobs that have been traditionally held by men and that historically only a minority of women want (i.e., coal miner, oil-driller, machinist, auto mechanic) and of jobs that have been traditionally held by women and that historically only a minority of men want (i.e., nurse, manicurist, elementary schoolteacher, flight attendant). How aggressive should a company be if, in the region, there simply are not enough people of an underrepresented group who express interest in a job opening? In other words, what is an auto repair shop in Canton, Ohio, to do if no women apply for its opening for an auto mechanic? Make sure you bring in evidence such as your text, other credible sources and real life examples if you have them, it CAN NOT be all opinion based.
