For the group portion of your final assignment, you and your group will create
a fake news website and each post an original fake news article to your site.
AS A GROUP
Your group should begin by creating a fake news website together. First, you’ll
need to determine what kind of site your group would like to start—it should fit
into one of Leetaru’s categories (either satire or clickbait).
To build your website, go to wordpress.com and click the “Start Your Website”
button on the bottom left side of the screen. You’ll have to register the site with
one person’s email address, but after that you can work together to create and
customize your fake news site. Give it a name, choose a background theme and
fonts, decide how posts will be formatted, upload general site photos, etc. Your
site should be formatted to look like the type of site you are trying to emulate.
ON YOUR OWN
After your group creates your site, you will each write your own fake news story
to add to it. This story can be about any (classroom appropriate) topic and
should follow the conventions of the kind of news story you choose to write
(satire or clickbait). Once your story is written, post it to your site.
Your fake news website should follow the conventions of the type of site you are
trying to create. We will go over these conventions a bit in class, but this will
probably require looking at some of these sites on your own as well to get a
better sense of what they look/sound like.
When you post your article to the site, it should be formatted like an article
you’d find online, not in MLA format. This requires: a large-font title with your
name and the date, a tagline, and single spacing. You should also upload an
image that goes with the story you chose to write.
