the concept of null hypothesis usually refers  to a general statement or default position that there can never be a relationship between two measured phenomena and there is no difference among the groups. it is often denoted H0 (read “H-naught”, "H-null", or "H-zero").

The alternative hypothesis, H1, is a statement of what a statistical hypothesis test is set up to establish.
