If we could learn to understand rhetorical analysis better, we could make more educated judgements about different topics. Being a student, I am often put in situations to use rhetorical analysis. I must conceptualize how I will use information and depending on the context I must make a lot of quick decisions. For example, when writing an essay, I have to consider the audience I am speaking to, decide what tone I want to adopt, and try my best to persuade the reader to receive the information I am giving to the best of my ability. A more specific example of this is when I created my research argument which required rhetoric analysis for almost every part. Being a citizen, I notice I am not as aware of the rhetorical analysis that I use compared to being a student. Reflecting on my interactions, I am aware that I tend to trust people’s credibility for certain things that a person says to me without testing that knowledge. Sometimes, just because I know someone or have a close relationship with a person, I trust that what they are telling me is true. Other times, I do not even take the time to analyze things or take little time to do so. This may be because of force of habit or because of the flow of today’s society not allowing me to do so. In Carroll’s essay she says that we often use context, such as choosing the clothes we wear depends on where we are going. During an argument, context is very important to stating your claim. An argument can be driven by the context in which is spoken about while on the other hand it could be a hinderance to making a strong defense. In today’s digital age there is a good amount of contextual background out there on rhetorical information. The only difficult part is finding it. In my research argument on climate change, I learned a lot. I learned that my topic is a big deal under a microscopic lens. In other words, there are not a lot of people paying attention to my research topic which is a main reason why the problem exists. A big surprise that really caught my attention in my research was that there are organizations benefiting on climate change, so these people pay lots of money to cover it up. This is also disturbing because it makes me question how long will they be able to do something like this? I am proud of myself for finding the topic that I did and sticking with it because of the potential awareness that could come about. Just knowing more about the background of climate change alone is amazing to me because it could be an opportunity to use this information in conversations with others if it is ever brought up. If I so happen to post my essay somewhere on the internet, lots of different people could see it and that alone excites me. Being able to bring awareness to an unknown topic like climate change is the definition of being a pioneer and that is the overall tone of my argument. Not only did I choose a topic that is easy to speak on and I am passionate about, but it also needs as much attention it can get so I am happy because of that. One place I feel I lack in as a writer is supporting details/keeping the reader engaged and fluidity. I hope to become a more insightful writer as I continue to gain experience and understand how to feed the reader with information and keep the reader involved. Understanding rhetoric is part of doing so and as I get better in one area naturally; I will get better with the other. Transitioning from paragraphs and different topics is another area I feel I am lacking in and hopefully with time I will improve in this area as well. Something tells me that this is something that you can only improve on with experience and I just must be patient and learn as much as I can from everything that I write. My research topic will certainly be in a different place in a decade’s time. Due to the facts, it will most likely be worse than what it is now. I say this because not a lot of action is being done to stop the effects of the problems it is causing and society as we know it is set up to keep the climate constantly changing. Not only are we as humans causing the problem, but the earth naturally goes through constant change as time goes by. With that being said, it should be safe to say that my topic will be in an interesting place in ten years’ time.  Post 2 In the beginning of the paper, Carroll gives you a day and environment as an example while also using self experiences we have all experienced to draw the conclusion that the nature of rhetorical analysis is us judging one another even after we try and say not to. Other examples she used to prove her point was social media interaction, texting and in person interaction. Being a student, I use rhetorical analysis much more then I do as a citizen. An example would be me scheduling myself for classes, I have to think quick and make a decision on if I want to be TBA or in a lecture while I also look at the teachers name and I then go to rate my professor and look at their ratings. From the color of their page ( red or green) and their description from passed students, I draw my conclusion on if I want them to be my teacher or not. I also look at the difficulty. Being a citizen, I seen a post on The Shade Room (TSR) about a $300 stimulus being on the way for citizens with children, just citizens with children. Although I am not sure how it will happen or even if it is signed off when I read that my immediate thought was " they aren't the only ones who need help nor are they the only people living here". I never got to receive any of the stimulus checks because of the fact I was claimed on taxes or my age group did not receive any. Me being a college student I think we should get just as much aid so when I read that I assumed the government only cares about business owners and parents, support wise. Carroll stated that rhetorical messages always occur in a specific situation or context and she then gave examples including the outfit we choose on a daily basis, a television commercial and where a billboard is placed. There is enough contextual background on news stories, speeches and advertisements. An example would be how news stories complete stories based off events that has happened and the information their sources gave to draw a conclusion. Advertisement would be if you had dead skin and dry heels, a commercial/flyer/billboard with some type of moisturizer or serum will get your attention. The chosen topic for my research argument was children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and how they are affected in their environment and society all together examples being, at home, schools and social events. I chose this topic because of an article I read about this mother who had twins, one who was autistic. I knew autism was a disorder but I did not have much knowledge on the background of it and questions started to form as I chose that to be my topic. Some knowledge I gained was how young children could be diagnosed with ASD and how their interaction plays a major part of their childhood. Some signs of ASD could be the child not recognizing their name, no eye contact, verbal and non verbal communication and playing with other kids and toys. Although some kids can be considered autistic, it can be a tricky call because of how young the child is and there are possibilities of them just completing milestones on their own. ASD deficits also ranges from mild to severe so their are stages. One area I feel that I need and would like to improve in as a writer is being more confident and straight forward with my work. These are minor barriers that I can overcome in the long run. Even with persuasive writing I still sometimes end my writing letting my audience choose or guess what's right or what they should do. I also sometimes add a lot of fluff to my writing instead of getting to the point and that can lead you to go off topic and miss your whole point. I am greatly proud of the aspect of me sharing ASD awareness with my audience while also learning more about it myself. Because the world is always revolving and we have so many instruments that help us learn and think critically, this subject will have more improvements on helping and awareness. I am confident behind that answer because the healthcare scientist and researchers are evolving more as the years go on. By evolving I mean getting more answers to questions and concerns while also creating more questions and concerns with the help of technology. In decades of time there may be shows and support groups for more awareness and there may be barriers to help children with ASD stay between mild and none instead of mild to severe.
