Aging fosters disability and sickness increases the suffering of humans and makes them
more vulnerable. Curing old age should be a priority for the science community. However, most
people do not seem to understand the possibilities of a breakthrough in this area of research. This
has resulted in underfunding of studies related to gerontology and other ageing-related studies.
Myths have also played a part in the disregard of this area of research in the contemporary world.
Curing diseases and prolonging life is one aspect of curing aging but it sure is not all it entails.
Age is a great risk factor which contributes to many chronic diseases in both developing and
industrialized world. It negatively impacts the economy of the world and should, therefore, be
treated as a disease itself.
On the one hand, Rae et al. contend that countering the impacts of aging is a better
policy. They discuss the impacts of science on increasing life expectancy based on disease
centered and conventional medical innovations. The medicine field has successfully managed to
minimize deaths caused by communicable ailments like smallpox as well as managing chronic
conditions like heart diseases. Rae and other pro antiaging advocates propose investment in
large-scale antiaging science that uses several techniques to target changes related to age
directly. This way, scientists would respond to the threat and proactively deter metabolic and
cellular aging changes.
Rae et al. conclude from the previous decades of studies that the process of aging is just
plastic. In species, highest lifespan is unfixed. It can be manipulated using diet especially (calorie
limitation) or gene (especially dampened insulin or insulin-like factor of growth). Generally, the
intervention reduces generation, enhances repair, and increases the resistance of cellular and
molecular aging damage. While individuals’ ability to analyze health span in organisms is
