Question Description

A triangle has 2 sides that have lengths of 8cm and 14 cm

which length could NOT represent the length of the third side

15 cm

7 cm

22 cm

18 cm

The sum of the two shorter sides of a triangle is always more than the longer side of the triangle

There are two possibilities that can occur

taking the unknown side to be t

1. if t is the longest then

8 + 14 > t

22> t

2. if t is one of the shortest side then

t +8 > 14

t >6

thus

6< t < 22

Hence the answer is 22, since t is greater than 6 and less than 22
