According to Merriam-Webster, a cube is "the regular solid of six equal square sides" ("cube"). As described here, the cube has 2 bases and have 4 lateral faces, describing all faces except for the bases. The shape fo the cross section perpendicular and parallel to the base is a square. The equation to find the surface area of a square is A=6a(2) [a to the 2nd power] and the equation for the volume is V=a(3) [a to the 3rd power].
