Introduction
Obesity refers to the health condition of the body that is characterized by excessive
weight due to building up of body fats and as a result a person has bigger body size than
normal. This body condition is determined based on the body mass index, commonly
known as body BMI. The body BMI basically is a calculation obtained by body weight
divided by the square of body height. Based on this calculation, a person having a BMI ratio
of more than 30 is generally described to be having the medical condition of obesity. This
base value for determining obesity may vary sometimes based on the country of origin.
Generally, based on the overweight i.e. above 30 BMI index, there exist three classes of
obesity as follows: class I obesity that falls between 30 to 35 BMI index, class II obesity that
falls between 35 to 40 BMI index and class III obesity that falls above 40 BMI index.
According to World Health Organization (WHO), the following further classification on
class II and III is described: severe obesity for body BMI index of less than 40, morbid
obesity for body BMI index of between 40 and 45 as well as super obesity for body BMI
index of more than 45. Obesity can also be determined by following the body values
determined by the percentage body fat and fat distribution through the waist-hip
proportion.
