method of solving

-4x + 9y = -16

2x - 5y = 8

------------------

-4x + 9y = -16

x  = (8+ 5y)/2

------------------

-4*(8+5y)/2 +9y=-16

x  = (8+ 5y)/2

-----------------------

-16-10y+9y=-16

x=(8+5y)/2

--------------------

-16-y=-16

x  = (8+ 5y)/2

------------------

-y=-16+16   -> y=0

x=(8+5*0)/2 ->x=4

Let's check

-4*4 + 9*0 = -16   -16=-16

2*4 - 5*0 = 8          8=8

Here is method of multiplication and adding

-4x + 9y = -16

(2x - 5y = 8) * 2

---------------------

-4x+9y=-16

4x - 10y=16

----------------

-4x+9y + 4x - 10y = -16 + 16 

-----------------------

y=0

----------------------

2x - 5y = 8

y=0

------------

x=4

Same as 1st method
