A cyclone in meteorology refers to a low-pressure area experiencing winds spiraling
inwards (Camargo & Wing, 2016). Typically, tropical cyclones are characterized by strong and
destructive gales of winds causing extensive damage to property and the environment. The
resultant debris may pose a danger as it becomes airborne. Strong winds may give rise to large
ocean waves reaching heights of over 15 meters which are a danger to shipping vessels. Waves
measuring 2 to 5 meters above the normal sea level can result in extensive flooding as well as
damaging coastal areas and deaths by drowning. The cyclones may also cause heavy rains as
they pick million tons of moisture daily which is then released as downpours. The damage
caused can affect inland areas from where they may have made a landfall due to flooding
(Camargo & Wing, 2016). Sometimes, cyclones can spawn tornadoes when they hit the coastal
lands causing severe wind damages.
