One of the tragic motifs in Death of a Salesman is that the protagonist, Willy Loman, had
a notion of success based on superficial appearances. In several instances, Willy maintains that
the secret to success was because he was well liked. The chief desire Willy had for himself and
his sons was to be well liked (Miller, 1996). However, this desire is a false sense of
accomplishment considering its role in staking the success of an individual on personality and
presentation as opposed to the quality of work an individual brings to the table....
