Background-
The argument is for education to play more strategic role in sustainable urban renewal and development in Philadelphia.
Since the organization and purpose of the GAP paper is part academic paper and part ‘action plan’ framed by theories and discourses on globalization and educational change, the message to the City of Philadelphia is that even though, comparatively speaking, the quality of its educational system outdoes systems in most developing countries, that doesn’t mean that communities in Philadelphia are immune to problems that affect everyone in our interconnected world.
The focus on needs of blighted urban communities is a reminder that access to quality education for the pursuit of individual prosperity and sustainable community development isn’t just something for children of high SES communities, but must be something that children from all socioeconomic backgrounds have equal and fair opportunities to access.Requirements for this annotated bibliography:
Annotated bibliography for your Global Education Action Project (GAP). The is a paper of 3-5 pages, double-spaced, APA style, and must include the following:
- A brief introduction to describe your GAP issue/topic, the rationale for choosing it, and the targeted audience whose understanding of global citizenship and sustainability your GAP seeks to develop.
- An annotated bibliography of at least 7 sources (outside the assigned readings of our course) to the GAP issue/topic

Introduction
The role of education on Global Action Programme (GAP) on sustainable urban
renewal and development in Philadelphia aims to respond and chart a new sustainable living
way that enhances collective welfare, while respecting the limits for available resources.
Cognizant of the quality of educational systems for the Philadelphians, because of
globalization, various challenges exist, and education is an effective means to solving various
emerging critical issues. In this respect, an emphasis on the different needs of devastated
urban habitats is constant reminder that when people have an access to quality education for
all is key towards sustainable community development and individual success. Therefore,
education plays a strategic role for everyone from various socioeconomic backgrounds
viewed at creating fair and equal opportunities for all (Bokova, 2015).
Philadelphia education system should empower learners to undertake active roles
aimed at facing and resolving not only local but also global challenges, and to be contributors
to an inclusive and safe world. As such, the rationale for choosing the topical issue is that
education should help the global citizens in developing core competencies that allow them
engage in the world with an approach that makes it a sustainable place. In this respect,
education that only creates individual that can only read and write is not adequate, but it
should do more such as providing understanding, values, and skills. Therefore, such students
can cooperate and resolve the interconnected issues such climate change, hunger, poverty,
equity, and sustainability (UNESCO, 2019).
