Special Needs Children

Introduction
The main goal for addressing the support of children with special needs in an inclusive
setting is the different approaches in educating children with special needs. All children are
placed in general classes regardless of their disabilities in an inclusive setting. The assumption
made is that children with special needs are as competent as those without. This paper will
discuss how special education children change the relationship with families, how I shall design
my classroom and how I plan to meet the needs of these children.
How special needs children change relationships with families
In most cases, parents initiate the relationship between them and their children's
caregivers. However, according to Gargiulo (2013), special needs caregivers are required to
initiate a relationship between them and the families of the children. This is because the families
of the children know and understand them better than anyone else. Therefore, the families are at
a better position to share their knowledge with the caregivers to make it easier for the caregiver
to understand and give care with respect to the child's needs. Additionally, parents always work
hard to sustain their relationship with their children's caregiver. On the contrary, when a special
needs child is involved, the responsibility to sustain the relationship falls on the caregiver.
Sustaining the relationship between the caregiver and the families of the special needs children
will promote an honest and open communication resulting in the families collaborating with the
caregiver to work as a team and give the child the best care they can.
How I shall design my classroom

There are three primary considerations to consider when designing a classroom for
special needs children. One, when designing a classroom for children with special needs, I shall
ensure that the classroom is spacious enough to facilitate the navigation of the children as some
of them are in wheelchairs and the participation of their group and solo activities. Two, the
classroom design will be designed to prevent injuries and accidents to the children. In other
words, I shall make sure that the class is unobstructed and safe with the appropriate placement of
hygiene facilities. Three, children with special needs are susceptible and may end up severely
agitated under some conditions. Hence the classroom designed will have controlled sensory.
How I shall meet the needs of the children
The significant changes in the education of special needs children or children with
disabilities are the shift from focusing on the deficits and disabilities to documenting the personal
strengths and development of each child to plan the most effective educational approach and
intervention (Kirk, 2012). Therefore to meet all the children's needs, I shall focus on
implementing the individualized education program (IEP) as it supports the documenting on the
strengths, growth, and development of the child's education. To further meet the children's
cognitive development needs, I shall introduce unique settings and special education which allow
the provision or introdu...
