The 6  participants in a weight-loss class lost the following weights (in pounds) after three weeks of dieting:

4 ,  0 ,  5 ,  0 ,  2 ,  1

Assuming that these weights constitute an entire population, find the standard deviation of the population. Round your answer to at least two decimal place

Mean = (4+0+5+0+2+1)/6 = 2

deviations = 4-2    0-2    5-2    0-2    2-2     1-2

=    2        -2     3      -2      0        -1

deviations square = 4      4       9      4       0       1

total of dev square = 22

SD = sqrt (total of dev square/number of items)

= sqrt (22/6)

= sqrt (3.666)

=  1.914
