Purpose: To write a 3-page Rhetorical Analysis using an opinion article or video of your choice. Pick wisely as you will have to dissect the argument made and evaluate it based on reasonable argument standards of Rhetoric (ethos, pathos, logos). You can talk about how literary technique (alliteration, repetition, etc.) is used to make their argument, and whether it was used well or not. Please remember that I am not interested in a simple summary or your own argument based on the issue. You are to evaluate how the author put together his/her argument, and whether or not it was effective or not based on Rhetorical standards. You will be graded on the following: • Ideas: how well you present your thesis: I need to see your evaluation or opinion of the argument and a preview of the reasons you will use to show why it is effective or not. Make sure to mention the author(s) and the name of the article or video. Make sure your essay discusses rhetorical appeals (ethos, pathos, logos) and possibly literary technique. • Organization: your ideas should flow one from the other with a thought-out progression that is logical. Make sure that you transition between ideas and that you seamlessly include quotes, paraphrasing or summaries from your source. Use various ways to incorporate borrowed information, not just Smith says. Make sure that the conclusion restates (not repeats) your thesis and the main points, and leaves the reader thinking forward. • Documentation: MLA formatting is required for the paper (double space, 12 point font, etc.). Wherever you use your article or video, you must include in-text citations in parentheses with the author(s) name and a page number for print materials only--web content and videos don't need page numbers). You need to include a Works Cited page as the last page of the document (does not get counted in the page count) with your source included in MLA format. Please see easybib.com or other generators to help with this. No in-text citations or works cited will constitute plagiarism (borrowing without giving credit) and will be considered a major error. Papers without this will not receive over a 70. • Word Choice: I expect this to be the most polished thing you have turned in. Therefore, make conscious decisions about word choice and use the thesaurus to make sure that everything is scholarly, stimulating, and formal. • Sentence Variety: I will be looking for different sentence structure spread out in the paper. Avoid just using subject-verb combinations. • Conventions: Standard English rules apply. Please run your papers through Grammarly to make sure you have gotten rid of spelling errors, sentence structure problems like fragments, etc. These will cost you points. Avoid 1st person, and no 2nd person (you, your, you're) or contractions (can't should be cannot). Audience/Tone: Consider your audience to be the Lone Star Community. All subjects are acceptable to take on as you can consider your audience to always be adults. Keep a scholarly tone (avoid being too informal or talking to your audience) and all Standard English rules apply.

Introduction
The public shaming of the nation in regards to their abject colorism and passive racism
forms the context of Barkha Dutt’s rant on the matter through two episodes of her show on
national television. In the article, ‘Shaming the Nation on Public Affairs Television,’ the author,
Radhika Parameswaran, uses specific literary overtones in delivering her overall message to the
targeted audience of the article. Repetition emerges in this article like in most cases, an enforcer
and a means of emphasizing the information that she seeks to pass onto her readership. One
could, therefore, say with great courage that literary styles as applied in writing is responsible for
enhancing message delivery by a certain author on a specific topic to the audience targeted with
the information.
Parameswaran, therefore, seeks to apply the various literary styles of writing to capture
the audience’s attention, emphasize details of the message and ensure accurate delivery of the
message to the readers of the article. In using variations of the liter...
