Think about an advertisement (in any medium) that had either a strongly positive or strongly negative effect on your attitude toward the product being advertised or the advertiser itself. Why did the ad have this effect? If you responded positively to the ad, do you think you were being manipulated in any way? If you responded negatively—and you are a potential buyer of the product that was advertised—what changes would you make to the ad to make it more successful?
Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!
This question is completely based off of personal experience. Think about ads that you've seen on tv that have really influenced you. An easy way to do this is think about the best Super Bowl commercial you've seen. Even look them up on YouTube. I'll give an example, but remember that it depends on your own experience. My example might not have had the same effect on you
One advertisement that has always stood out to me is the Old Spice commercial. That commercial really didn't do anything to tell you the pros or cons of the product, but it still caught my attention. The ad had a positive effect on me through the humor in the commercial. From that point on every time I went to the store and saw Old Spice bodywash on the shelf I would think about that commercial. I do believe I was manipulated though, because the commercial really told me nothing about the product. All it did was give me a positive view of the product without telling me anything about the results, the health effects, or any concerns I might have.
Please let me know if you need any clarification. I'm always happy to answer your questions.
