Intercultural relationships are essential in an increasingly diverse global culture where
ideas and norms are transmitted to people through interactions in different aspects of life. As
such, the development of ethical relationship as well as different ways of developing,
maintaining and concluding relationships in people that belong to different cultural groups is
important (Ibrahimoglu, Cigdem & Seyhan, 2014). Further, differing cultural norms and values
affect conflict styles as people from different cultural backgrounds have different approaches to
conflicts. Consequently, this essay discusses the development as well as the maintenance of
intercultural relationship; especially values and norms that affect conflict styles as well as
illustrations on how different approaches to conflicts are used by people from different cultural
backgrounds.
Cultural Factors influencing development of ethical relationship in and between cultures
Cultural factor, although unique to each individual culture and person, have considerable
influence on the ethical development of relationships. While each person brings their unique
cultural values in an ethical relationship, it is essential to note that the acculturation process
differs from one person to another. Through acculturation, one gives up their old ways and
adopts new ones. Additionally, through acculturation, people from different cultural backgrounds
participate in the cultural values and practices of the dominant culture in society (Ibrahimoglu et
al., 2014). Imperatively, through different ways of acculturation, one develops effective norms
and values that are ethical that are acceptable in their cultures.
