Introduction
Simon Property Group is a real estate firm based in the United States. The real estate
industry comprises the many aspects of the property which includes development, assessment,
marketing, selling, and leasing. The real estate industry also deals with managing commercial,
industrial, residential, and agricultural properties. This paper will look into the strengths and
weakness of the corporation and determine how the segments of the general environment affect
the industry overall.
General Environment
There are six segments of the general environment and they include; political, economic,
social, technological, environmental and legal. The segments have a general influence on any
industry and they remain outside the control of any corporation. In the real estate industry, the

Dranove, & Shanley, 2000). It would be pointless for a company like Simon’s to invest in a large

are staggering. People who live below the poverty line do not have the luxury of visiting big

malls and shopping from big brands that are associated with grand shopping malls. The economy
of a country determines the kind of investment that can survive within borders.
Five Forces of Competition
Michael E Porter of Harvard Business School developed the five forces of competitive
analysis in 1979. This is a simple paradigm for determining and examining a business
organization's competitive strength and position. The five forces establish the competitive
intensity and attractiveness of a market and identify the power position of a business condition.
These five threats include; the supplier power, the buyer power, competitive rivalry, threat of
substitution, and threat of new entry (Michaux, Cadiat, & Probert, 2015). The buyer power and
threat of new entry seem to be the most significant for Simon’s. These two forces can make or
break a corporation like Simon Propert...
