Henry IV, Part I literary Analysis Paper A literary analysis essay aims to scrutinize and investigate the structure, meaning, and/or value of a certain literary piece. To begin, the writer must have a great understanding of the text. Then, he/she must decide on a creative way of looking at that piece of text. This usually begins by choosing a major element of the text (a theme, character, setting, etc.) or trying to answer a particular question, sometimes through a particular lens of literary theory. The paper is argumentative in nature, must include lots of textual support with balanced commentary, and needs to continuously tie back to the thesis. For this assignment, you will need to formulate a thesis about a specific aspect of interest you've found within Henry IV, Part I. You will also need to decide which literary theory "lens" you will use to approach the text. Some types of literary theory can be quite difficult to wrap your head around, so I've given you just a few to choose from with some sample questions to get you started. Once you decide how you want to approach your paper, you will need to generate a thesis statement and have it approved by me. To support your thesis, you will need direct quotes from the text and at least one other scholarly source. I have provided you with some sample journal articles. You can also find others on your own. Be sure to find your sources from databases or other scholarly websites. Remember to balance your commentary with your direct quotes in a 2:1 ratio. After your thesis is approved, you will be expected to create an outline as a pre-write, draft, revise, edit, and produce a final, polished copy of this essay.
