Affirmative action for minority groups in employment has been a divisive, emotive, and
controversial issue for many years.

From a rational point of view, affirmative action is justified especially in ensuring the
minority groups in the society access job opportunities.

Although on the surface individuals view affirmative action as only good for employees,
it creates a win-win situation for both employees and organization.
•
The purpose of this paper is to examine the good side of affirmative action, highlight
what opponents claim, and give legal evidence to support the importance of affirmative
action.
Arguments in favor of Affirmative Action
•
Affirmative action is legally good because it offers a fairground to make up for social
inequalities that exist in society.
•
In the case of Grutter v. Bollinger (2003), the court argues that the aim of affirmative
action is set to promote diversity.
•
According to Moses (2016), affirmative action does not give preferential treatment for
minority groups to get employment, but it ensures that they are treated just like the
majority groups in the society.

From distributive and compensatory justice point of view, affirmative action is an
effective way of compensating for unjust past oppression and discrimination of the
