4. Thirty samples of size 3, available in the C16P4 worksheet were taken from a
machining process over a 15 hour period. Construct control charts using excel x- and
R-chart template. Verify the excel calculations of the control limits by hand using the
formulas in the chapter. Does the process appear to be in statistical control? Why or why
not?
Answer:
Mean= 3.63
Average range= 0.80
A2= 1.2020076
D4= 2.57
x-bar chart:
LCL= 3.63-1.2020076*.080= 2.66
UCL= 3.63+ 1.2020076 * 0.80 = 4.59
R-Chart:
LCL= 0
UCL= 2.57* 0.80= 2.05857
The patterns in the R-bar chart appear to be in statistical control and the patterns in the
x-bar chart appear to have a decreasing and increasing trend. The x-bar chart has a stable as
well as consistent pattern of its variations which can be associated with the common causes.
It has a controlled variation which is foreseeable within boundaries of its control limits.
9. A fastfood franchise tracked the number of errors that ocurred in customers’ orders.
These included wrong menu item,wrong drink size,lack of condiments,wrong price
total,and so on. Some orders have more than one error, In one week,1,500 orders were
filled, and a total of 72 errors were discovered. Find the control limits for a c chart. Is
order accuracy good or bad in your opinion?
Answer:
Defects/Errors- 72
Units- 1,500 orders
C = 72/1,500= .048
LCL= .048- 3 ..048
UCL= C + 3 c
= .048+ 3
.048
= -0.609267069
UCL= 0.70526
In my opinion the order accuracy is good because the pattern does not go beyond the
control limit....
