Why is it easier to hear sounds on a calm night compared to a windy day?

Sound is a mechanical wave that is an oscillation of pressure transmitted through a solid, liquid, or gas, composed of frequencies within the range of hearing and of a level sufficiently strong to be heard, or the sensation stimulated in organs of hearing by such vibrations.
Matter in the medium is periodically displaced by a sound wave, and thus oscillates. The energy carried by the sound wave converts back and forth between the potential energy of the extra compression (in case of longitudinal waves) or lateral displacement strain (in case of transverse waves) of the matter and the kinetic energy of the oscillations of the medium.

during windy days the medium itself is displaced and the compression that are formed even the pressure points that are formed are displaced due to wind and hence will not reach our ear
in contract during calm nights the wind is stationary and the sound can easily propagate with out any problem
