The norming stage of group development is where colleagues start resolving their differences by appreciating each others’ strength, gaining trust on each other and having an open communication. This makes it easier for the leader to exercise his authority because the team finds it easy to respect and follow his lead. In this level, the team members are able to socialize among themselves, provide constructive feedback and develop a strong commitment towards the team’s goal.

A good example is in a company setting where a sales department strives to reaching its monthly target as a team instead of dividing the sales target among themselves then striving to achieve the same individually. When they work together, they are able to complement each others' strengths and weaknesses, hence reaching the target more easily and efficiently. This is the best time to hold a team building event because the co-workers will easily socialize and build on their personal relationships. This may translate to positive results and increased progress in the workplace.
