Summary of studies
This study was done by a professor at University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Linda Aiken,
who is also a Director at NINR Centre for Health Outcomes, and Policy Research. She had
conducted numerous studies examining the impacts of nursing surrounding, and inside the
health care system. It checked at Magnet hospitals, which are hospitals that are known for
their achievements in retaining, and attracting nurses, as well as having AIDS unit cares. She
constantly got to see the view that nurses staffing at higher levels got related to increased
satisfaction of patients, as well as lower mortality rates of patients (Ketefian, 2000). From a
study done by Dr. Aiken in 2002, examining results of job surveys of over bedside nurses
totalling to 10,000, showed that over 40% of nurses with over 10 years’ experience, were
highly dissatisfied at work, and burnout or emotional exhaustion.
Another summary, done by Dr. Margaret Grey, who is a dean at Yale University
School of Nursing, who established, and tested interventions known as (CST) ‘Copying Skill
Training,’ aimed at improving diabetic teens communication, and coping skills, conflict
resolutions, routine management of diabetes, and healthy behaviours. It was designed to
increase their level of competence, geared towards behaviour patterns that were more
