  • Guide to Essay Writing The course provided information and discussions on three areas of the strategy problematic relevant exclusively to the public policy of national security: - "Strategy" as a body of knowledge and art of balancing “ends” and “means” at an appropriate level of “risk”; - "Strategic management" as a high-level method of strategy implementation; - "Strategic leadership" in public policy and administration. The final assessment aims to help you to clarify, systemise, and summarise the knowledge on strategy within the above framework. In the attached file, you find a comprehensive questioner. To answer the questions, you may use the class presentations and recommended literature. While answering the questions, you should avoid mixing of inconsistent and controversial ideas. E.g., some sources explain the strategy as an element of management, while others believe both are issues of strategic leadership; the business strategy assumes competition, while the military strategy – conflict, etc. Your grade will depend on the quality of the answers. I may recommend only: focus on the most important; use the correct terms; use short but consistent sentences; start each paragraph with your thesis and provide arguments with 2-4 sentences; stay away from “copy-paste” without strict quotation – use citations as arguments or to make comments on them.
