Can we engineer the end of ageing?
In her presentation, Daisy Robinton (2016) explores the possibility of outing an end to
ageing through bioengineering. The scientist at Harvard University explains how techniques such
as gene editing can be used to prevent the occurrence of diseases that come as a result of wearing
out of the cells of the body due to aging. Daisy’s interest in therapeutic science was inspired by
the diagnosis of her elder sister with juvenile diabetes. This led her to desire to understand how
we can protect people when their bodies rise against them.
