California’s Neglect of Education
Introduction
California has been on the rocks after it was termed as the 18th worst state in education in
the United States (US) due to allegations of underfunding the education sector which has
stimulated the poor performance the country has been portraying. The government of California
has implemented new reforms such as the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) in an attempt
to improve the previous weak system. Regarding the conditions that the academic sector has
been subjected to, a conclusion of the country’s neglect of its education can be reached by
looking into the ethos, pathos, and logos related to the subject matter.
Integration of ethos, pathos, and logos into the K-12 education
In 2015, the state had set aside 3.27% of its total income for its ministry of
education exclusive of the colleges and universities. This made the country appear as though it
had neglected its education yet it was suffering from financial struggles evident from the scarcity
of teachers whose ratio to students is 25:1 and their numerous demonstrations (Tatum, 2014).
Notably, the funding per student of the 6.2 million that went to schools in California was
increased meaning that a more significant strain than what previously existed was established
