White Privilege
White privilege is hard to see, especially for those who were born with automatic access
to power and resources, which is a majority of white people. It is also hard to have a discourse
about since those who possess it do not believe in its existence. Initially, white privilege was
used in reference to the systematic advantages that white people enjoyed on account of their race.
These privileges included voting, citizenship, and the ability to buy houses in neighborhoods that
they desired (Wallis, 2016). Although some of these privileges have been extended to black
people, in any contemporary society, white privilege remains institutionalized and subtle serving
to confer dominance to the white people over minorities.
White privilege exists among those with decision making power and as such, it is likely
to continue being propagated. In politics, there are fewer representatives from the black
community, yet these are the people who are tasked with making the most important decisions
