Your final paper will consist of a synthesis of the critical reflective essays and will work towards developing a your own theory of race and racism within the United States. The focus here is on synthesis thus you will be required to connect all of the previous writing assignments and rely upon the course readings and class
discussions as the basis for this theory of race and racism.
The final paper is due on May 14, 2019.
For the final paper I'd like for you to synthesize the arguments from the previous writing assignments, exams, reaction papers and class notes from this semester. Look for the important and salient themes that we have discussed. Figure out what stands out to you the most and use these ideas to construct a reflective essay as it relates to race and racism within contemporary America. I'd also like for some self-reflection upon how your interpretation of contemporary racism has evolved over the semester. Please focus on your unique reality and discuss those things specific to yourself and how they directly impact how you see yourself and your future as it relates to contemporary race and racism. This is an opportunity to integrate the course materials with your self-understanding, and to explore the topic of racism at both a feeling and thinking level.

Introduction
Race refers to the grouping of people based on their social and physical qualities. Racism
refers to discrimination or prejudice that is directed to an individual because they are of a different
race, and there is a belief that the other race is more superior. Racism is very prevalent in today's
society, and it fails to get the right amount of attention that it should. For instance, it can be seen
in school segregation. , but it is still happening. This paper will discuss the reality of racism as it
pertains to today's society, and it will also connect with some reading to have a broader perspective
on the topic.
Perspectives of Racism
There are quite several views that have been used to explain racism and that provide one
with a different understanding of what racism is all about. According to the Marxist perspective,
racism is an ideology that was used by the bourgeoisie to divide workers. According to Oliver
Cox, a sociologist, racism is something that the well privileged used to take advantage of the other
people. Racial exploitation equaled to class exploitation. Institutionalist perspective is of the idea
that all the white people are racists. Institutionalists view racism as an outgrowth of colonialism.
They argue that blacks are economically, politically, and socially subordinated by white people.
The internal colonialism perspective holds that racism is made by the colonial status of
