Introduction
Thailand is a country in Southeast Asia renowned for royal places, tropical beaches,
temples, and ancient ruins. Its capital city is Bangkok, founded in 1782 and currently a unique
ultramodern city surrounded by temples and quiet communities. The nation is 198, 120 square
miles in size with a population of more than sixty-eight million people (World Population
Review, 2013). It is the 50th largest country in the world. Initially, Thailand government was
known as the Royal Thai Government (RTG) but the 1932 revolution ended absolute monarchy
by replacing it with the current constitutional monarchy thus making it a unitary government.
Thailand has been under different intervals of ruling like democratic and military rulers where
the most recent military leaders-initiated coups in May 2014 and wanted to maintain the nation
under a military dictatorship (Pongsudhirak, 2008). Despite the different types of governments
that have ruled the nation, Thailand has retained its basic structure of government. It comprises
of the executive, legislature, and judiciary just like the Westminster government system. The
three branches of government are in Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand.
Current form of government in Thailand
From May 2014 to date, a military junta has been ruling Thailand- the National Council
for Peace and Order. They had initially repealed Thailand’s 2007 constitution in an effort to
maintain a military dictatorship. When they took over office in 2014, they would ban political
